![]() ![]() Sidman, in her eleven poem collection, covers familiar creatures such as the wood duck and the dragonfly, but also covers insects and creatures seldom seen by the eye. Sidman seems to give an imaginary voice to each creature of the pond while providing non-fiction information on the same subject. Many of her poems are written in first person. A special favorite was the “spring peppers” or a type of tree frog whose throat swells. Then, the final illustration is of a winter scene and all is quiet. The first poem begins with a bud springing forth and the last poem is a turtle burrowing in the mud.
